The Essential Recognition

The Significance of Awareness

Introduction:

[1]  Awareness is the only 'thing' that cannot be doubted:

We all know we are aware and conscious. To adapt Descartes “cogito ergo sum”, we can say “I am aware or conscious, therefore I am”. Or, more accurately, “there is awareness or consciousness of experience, therefore there is some type of existence present”. Awareness or consciousness is the one thing that cannot be doubted, whereas everything else can. Also, awareness or consciousness is 'self-evident' like nothing else can be. We may not understand the nature of awareness or consciousness, but it cannot be doubted for without it there is no experience or existence of any type and therefore only oblivion. Oblivion is clearly not the case for the reader reading these words, so it's clear there is awareness of experience and therefore some type of existence present. In short, existence as Awareness (including its ever-changing content) is present.

[2] The common factor of all experience is Awareness:

Language often deceives us. We say we 'have' awareness or consciousness, seemingly in the same way that we 'have' a particular type of hairdo. Now not having a particular type of hairdo or having no hair at all will not result in us ceasing to exist. This is because we don't 'have' awareness or consciousness, rather it is because we 'are' awareness or consciousness. It's what we fundamentally and essentially 'are'! We just have to check the facts! We 'have' a body, we 'have' a mind, we 'have' a personality, but we 'are' awareness or consciousness. We 'have' perceptions, we 'have' thoughts, we 'have' feelings, but what we 'are' is the awareness or consciousness in which or to which they occur. And, note (or rather check in your own experience), that regardless of what your experience is the ever-present common factor is Awareness. This is because Awareness is what we essentially 'are'! As it is so important, this deep fact of our experience is worth emphasising:

We don't 'have' Awareness, we 'are' Awareness!

[3] Little beginnings to the Recognition of the Awareness we 'are':

Now already here there may be the beginnings of a little Recognition for the reader. However, to give real clarity and depth here, to expand considerably on this little beginning, it is necessary to thoroughly and deeply investigate what the nature of Awareness is. This not just in an intellectual way, but rather in a way that is direct and profoundly *experiential*. This is what the following Recognition Triggers attempt. If and when Recognition is 'triggered' in the reader to a sufficient degree, the reader will very likely agree with the opening sentence of the Intention on the homepage: "The most important Recognition or Realisation we can have in life is the *experiential* Recognition of our True Being and Essential Nature", which is nothing other than Awareness itself. In addition, when Awareness is directly 'Recognised' and understood (as much as is humanly possible) for what It truly is, a certain comment of a certain type may very likely arise along the lines of: "Wow!"
